What is a Chemex?
After several years of using espresso machines, capsule machines and other modern inventions, we are happily returning to the classics of coffee brewing. One such classic device is precisely the Chemex. The father of the Chemex was American chemist Dr. Peter Schlumbohm. Although Dr. Peter Schlumbohm held about 300 different patents in his field, he only became famous after he patented and manufactured the Chemex. The device gained great popularity in a short period of time and even starred in several famous film productions, e.g. Rosemary's Baby. The popularity of the device obliged the owner to establish a Chemex business in Pittsfield. In 1943, the Museum of Modern Art recognized the Chemex as one of the best designed products.
Brewing coffee in a Chemex is very simple. You need to stock up on hot water, good ground coffee from our store and a filter. Although the brewing process itself is similar to brewing in a pour-over coffee maker, the aroma of brewed coffee in a Chemex is unique.
The device resembles the flasks used in a chemistry lab, but is far more elegant. Chemex is an hourglass-shaped one-piece vessel. It is made of high quality heat-resistant glass with a wooden collar and leather trim. The collar is located in the middle of the machine and serves as a handle and protects against burns. Filters used in Chemexes do not absorb odors and do not pass sediment.
A common problem of using pour-over coffee makers was that the brewing temperature was too low. With a Chemex, it is the user who sets and controls the temperature suitable for brewing coffee.
With the Chemex, you can enjoy a wonderful aromatic coffee after a short while.
If you feel like having another coffee, you simply repeat the entire brewing procedure.
